NTPC Bongaigaon Launches Boat Ambulances
Three boat ambulances equipped with medicines and emergency facilities will provide healthcare services to flood-prone char areas under a ₹20-lakh CSR initiative.
NTPC Bongaigaon has launched three boat ambulances to provide healthcare services to flood-prone char and riverine villages in Kokrajhar district under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
The ambulances will serve Khutabagra and adjoining riverine areas bordering Dhubri district, where annual floods often disrupt road connectivity and limit access to healthcare.
The boats were flagged off by BTC Executive Member for Health and Family Welfare Derhasat Basumatary in the presence of BTC Executive Member Moon Moon Brahma, Director of Health Services, BTC, Nilu Brahma, NTPC Bongaigaon officials, health department representatives and local residents.
Implemented in collaboration with the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Government and the Directorate of Health Services, BTC, the ₹20-lakh project is equipped with essential medicines and emergency medical facilities. Each boat ambulance will be staffed by trained healthcare personnel, including Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), to provide primary healthcare and emergency medical assistance in remote villages.
Speaking at the launch, Derhasat Basumatary said the initiative would improve access to healthcare for people living in flood-prone riverine areas, particularly pregnant women, children, senior citizens and emergency patients.
Moon Moon Brahma said partnerships between public institutions and corporate organisations were essential for improving healthcare services in remote communities.
Director of Health Services, BTC, Nilu Brahma said the boat ambulances would also support immunisation drives, maternal healthcare and routine medical services in villages that remain difficult to access during the monsoon.
NTPC Bongaigaon said healthcare continues to be one of its key CSR focus areas, with the boat ambulances expected to provide year-round medical services while serving as a lifeline during floods.
