The devastating July 19 flood caused by the Dikhow River inundated large parts of the Nazira Assembly constituency, severely affecting thousands of people and damaging homes and household belongings across several areas.

Among the worst-affected areas were Nepali Khuti, Kamalchapori, Tengahola, Santak, Shiloni Bihubar, Rajapul, Duwara Gaon, Khanikar Gaon, Ligiripukhuri, Ligiripukhuri Naga Gaon, Chumonibari, Hridayatpur and Hulangkatani in Bihubar.

Amid the post-flood hardship, the Hiteswar Saikia Foundation has come forward with relief assistance for affected and distressed families.

Former Nazira MLA and former Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, his wife Bandana Saikia, and Dr Hemaprabha Saikia, president of the Hiteswar Saikia Foundation, participated in the initiative to dispatch essential relief materials to flood-affected areas under Borbarua Panchayat.

As part of the humanitarian initiative, the foundation distributed folding beds, mattresses, pillows, bedsheets and essential cooking utensils to families whose household belongings were damaged or washed away in the flood.

According to the foundation, the relief effort is particularly aimed at supporting vulnerable sections of the affected population, including senior citizens, sick and ailing persons, and young children.

The initiative has provided much-needed assistance to families struggling to recover from the flood and rebuild their homes and livelihoods.
