Hepatitis B and C screening camp at GuwahatiPress Club

Guwahati: Dr Rela Institute & MedicalCentre, Chennai has organized a daylong Hepatitis B and C screening camp atGuwahati Press Club on 9 September 2019 (11 am to 3 pm). Subsequentexpert opinions by consultant hepatologists from the multi-speciality hospital (with necessary privacy) will also be made available for those participants on 14 September (11 am to 3 pm), who test positive for the disease. Currently, chronic Hepatitis B and C are themajor burden of the liver diseases in India which eventually lead tocirrhosis of the liver and hepatocellular carcinoma.

However, a simple screening test can provide anopportunity to treat the disease and to identify patients, who are atrisk of hepatocellular carcinoma. For the person, diagnosed negative for Hepatitis B can be protected by giving propervaccines.

The initiative of Dr Rela Institute & Medical Centre, which can be termed as an importantexample of social healthcare initiatives, isexpected to benefit member-journalists of the press club innortheast India to fight against Hepatitis B and C.
