DoNER minister General VK Singh Friday disassociated flood problem from his ministry saying that it is for the water resources ministry to do whatever is necessary.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Friday, General Singh said that flood is nothing new to Assam as he has been dealing with the problems since 1970.

“I can assist. I can suggest. I can push. But if you are thinking that the DoNER is going to do flood control, I am sorry that is not done,” said the Union minister.

He, however, said that he would recommend the Water Resources Ministry to conduct an in-depth study on Brahmaputra considering various aspect.

According to him, silting of Brahmaputra was a big problem and nobody gave a serious thought on this over the years. His comments assume uncomfortable significance at a time when the state has been demanding to consider flood as the national distater.
