Flash Floods Damage East Siang
Heavy rain damages roads, bridges, homes and power infrastructure across East Siang district as authorities issue safety advisories and suspend classes on June 29 and 30.
Flash floods triggered by a cloudburst and incessant rain since Saturday night have damaged roads, bridges, houses, agricultural land and power infrastructure across East Siang district and other parts of Arunachal Pradesh.
The East Siang district administration has ordered all schools to remain closed on June 29 and 30 due to the worsening weather.
In Pasighat, the swollen Sibo Korong River washed away sections of local roads, damaged houses and caused severe riverbank erosion.
A stretch of NH-13 between Raneghat Bridge and Ayeng village was threatened after floodwaters carrying debris rushed down from the hills. Zila Parishad Member Bomken Tayeng deployed machinery to divert the water through a culvert, preventing further damage to the highway.
Landslides also disrupted traffic on the Raneghat–Bodak road. The debris was later cleared using excavators arranged by Mebo MLA Oken Tayeng.
Roads and bridges were damaged near Remi village on the Pasighat–Ledum–Tene road, while similar destruction was reported in Oyan under Ruksin subdivision. At Koyu and Kora along the East Siang–Lower Siang boundary, flash floods washed away bridges and damaged several houses.
Residents said damaged roads and power outages have disrupted daily life. They urged the government to restore connectivity, provide relief to affected families and strengthen flood protection measures.
District officials are monitoring the situation and have advised people living near rivers and vulnerable areas to remain alert.
