Firing at Rongajan; One crushed to death
One person was died and at least ten others sustained serious injury when police sprang upon a group of people in Golaghat district on Tuesday who took to the streets in protest against the Naga miscreants’ recent attacks in Uriamghat area where at least 13 people were killed.
The incident took place in the morning when several local organizations took out a protest in Rongajan staged economic blockade on the road the road leading to Nagaland.
Suddenly a police team led by the Golaghat superintendent of police along with CRPF jawans arrived on the spot to be followed by an altercation. A section of the policemen resorted to open firing at the protestors while some others canned the protestors.
One person was crushed to death by a moving vehicle when he was trying to escape police lathi charge. Injured are undergoing treatment at the Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital.
Various political parties, organizations and individuals have condemned the police excess saying that these policemen have already failed to deal with the Naga miscreants’ attack in Uriamghat.
