Confusion over watery grave

Not even a single body has so far been fished out from the river Kolohi after an overcrowded machine boat met with a mishap in the outskirt of Guwahati on Monday.

SDFR personnel deployed in the rescue operation will be back in action from Tuesday morning. “Nobody so far formally lodged the complaint of loss before the authority. Without a specific complaint how will be proceed,” a senior SDRF personnel told Assam Times.

The incident took place at 1-30 in the afternoon when an overcrowded boat carrying more than 300 people capsized in the river.

Local residents told Assam Times that the engine of the boat, carrying the passengers from Chaygaon to Champupara stopped functioning properly as it reached the middle of the river before it hit a broken wooden bridge.
