Skill Development has been one of the priority areas of government as well as corporate in the country. As a part ‘Swabalamban’ which is Corporate Social Responsibility programme of OIL India Ltd, a skill development programme has started which is implemented by Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship in association with APRINS. , a non governmental organisation based in Guwahati. Under this project 60 youths from upper Assam would be trained on Retail Management and they would be placed after successful completion of the training programme. The formal inauguration programme was held at APRINS Training Centre on 19th Feb. The inauguration was attended by Mr Manoj Kr Das, Director of IIE and he had appealed the trainees to complete the course and get placement and move ahead in life. Speaking on the occasion Rohit Upadhaya from GNRC also encouraged the students. Other guests present in the inauguration programme includes Anjal Dutta, Shruti Baruah , Anusya Mahanta from IIE ; Ranjan K Baruah , motivator cum trainer, Anuj Kr Saikia , IT Consultant were also present on the occasion . Chandan Barthakur , General Secretary of APRINS gave welcome address and he also mentioned about the activities of APRINS amongst all participants . APRINS has already completed various skill training in the past and recently finished a course on Patient Care Assistant in association with IIE.

The Asom United Democratic Front, NCP, CPI, CPM leaders are holding a crucial meeting in the city of Guwahati on Saturday to finalise the seat sharing deal for the upcoming Lok Sabha poll in Assam slated for April 16 and 23.
The third front constituents earlier this month decided to strike the deal seeking a non Congress and non BJP government. Notably, the move for a third front came up as AGP started its confabulations with BJP. Several rounds of talks held earlier failed to hammer out a set of clear cut strategies but these parties have finalised thier seats and candidates.

People of Kalaigaon including senior citizens, students, teachers and members of various social organisations staged demonstration in front of the main gate of Kalaigaon College on August 7 demanding immediate action against Arabinda Das,principal,Kalaigaon College for his immoral activities. Members and officials of All Bodo Women Federation (ABWF), AASU, ABSU, AJYCP, ARSU etc along with senior citizens of Kalaigaon assembled at the main college gate at 8 am to demand stringent action against the principal of Kalaigaon College who was caught in a compromising position with a minor girl student in his residence on the night of August 3 by his wife and daughters.
According to information,the agitation will continue till disciplinary action is not taken against the accused principal. Thousands of students of the college wore black badges to show support to the agitators. A public meeting was also held at the site which decided to continue the agitation without effecting normal teaching in the college. Social workers Kami Ram Saharia, Kamal Prasad Sarma (Mouzadar), Bakul Sarkar, Dandi Kumar Bodo and others strongly condemned immoral acts of the principal and requested government immediately to suspend Arabinda Das till found not guilty by appropriate authority. It is known that the matter will be referred to Secretary and Director of Education,BTC; Deputy Commissioner and Inspector of Schools,Udalguri district. In the mean time Dipen Bodo, Advisor of Udalguri district ABSU told media that they would probe the incident of their own. It needs mention that wife of the principal had filed an FIR at Kalaigaon police station on August 4 alleging mental torture,domestic violence against her husband. She and her two daughters told media persons that her husband had been torturing them for last twenty three years and had illegal affairs with other women and girls. Following the allegation, police had brought the principal to Kalaigaon police station for interrogation but released without proper investigation causing public uproar in the district.
