Normal classes remained heavily disrupted in 42,000 primary schools across the state on Monday when the teachers stayed away from duties allging utter discrimination of the government.
Called by the Assam State Primary Teachers’ Association (ASPTA), sround 116,000 teachers have not been attending the classes from the morning much to the major inconveniace of 40 lakh students.
Talking to Assam Times, the striking teachers said,” we are quite disappointed with the government notification where we wont get the salaries as per the 7th Pay Panel recommnedation which we have been receving frm August last year.”
“The Assam government in September this year issued a notiication where the graduate teachers who were drawing salaries in the pay scale beginning Rs 8,700 would receive scales of non-graduate teachers whose pay scale starts at Rs 6,200. We don’t understand how the finance department can take such a decision,” said an agitating teacher.
