BJP fields Saikia in Koliabor

16 Mar 2014 - 8:24am | AT News

After days of will-they-won’t-they, BJP has fielded Marinal Kumar Saikia in Koliabor in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls slated for April 7.

Saikia’s name was finalized on Saturday evening after the Central leadership left it completely on the state leadership.

Sources told Assam Times that the state leadership has hardly any interest in this constituency.

President Sarbananda Sonowal urged the party leadership not to go for Koliabor where Chief Minister’s son Gaurav Gogoi is in the fray.

That’s why, the Centre passed the buck on to Sonowal who had to announce Saikia’s name under pressure from the grass root level.
