The Sahitya Akademy has announced its award to prolific writers Arupa Patangia Kalita and UG Brahma for 2014.
Dr Kalita, who teaches English at Tangla College is known for her epoch making novels and short stories has been announced the award for her fiction in Assamese. The author of 10 novels has already received literary awards which include Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad Award, Katha Prize and Prabina Saikia Award.
The name of former Rajya Sabha MP and BPF leader has been announced for his contributions to the Bodo literature with five collections, including poetry, short stories, biography and essay. His poetry book Údamgwphral Gidinghphnnanal is known for socioeconomic and cultural scene of contemporary Bodo society.
The award comprising an engraved copper plaque, a shawl and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh would be given away at a function on March 9 next year.
