Actor joins TMC

Noted film actor Biju Phukan joined Trinamool Congress in presence of Mamata Banerjee at a function in Guwahati on Wednesday.

Phukan, who once contested the assembly polls from AGP told the TMC boss that he was prepared to fight the polls.

People thronged in thousands at the sarusajai Stadium to attend the TMC rally where Mamata Banerjee drew appreciation.

Ms. Banerjee clarified, while addressing a party rally in Guwahati, that Trinamool Congress was a part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government when it was headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee but her party would not support any party that incites communal violence and hatred on the basis of religion, caste, creed or community.

Manipur police seized 300 SP capsules and 11 boxes of N 10 tablets from two individuals on April 16 at around 8 p.m. by Singjamei police , Imphal west from an autorickshaw in which they were travelling, police said today. Assam goes to repolling in thee assembly constituencies.Polling began at 6 booths from 8 in the morning on Monday in Bhawanipur, Rongia and Udalguri districts. Assamtime poll squad covering these booths see brisk polling where voters remaining lined up to cast their votes. The Election Commission has ordered repolling in these booths in view of major anomalies on April 11. The counting would take place on May 13.
Atleast 7 personnel of Manipur Rifles were killed and other 5 wounded on Friday when heavily armed insurgents suspected to be cadres of the NSCN(IM) ambused a convoy of Phungyar MLA Wunaoshang Keishing. MLA Keishing escaped the attack unhurt. The heavily armed insurgents opened fire on the MLA and his convoy while on there way at Rihang, Ukhrul district, Manipur. The MLA visited Phungyar district to participate at a function. The personnel who were killed in the attack include a post commander and a driver and the convoy belonged to 1st and 6th Manipur Rifles, according to police sources.
