AGP leader quits party

AGP leader and former MLA Hitendra Nath Goswami on Sunday quit the regional party.

Gowasmi, the three time party legislator from Jorhat Assembly constituency has already sent his resignation letter as the party’s primary member to president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta.

Goswami sent the resignation letter a day after he met the party members in Jorhat on Saturday. The development is a staggering blow for the regional party three months before the Lok Sabha polls.

The Centre has raised the margin money for khadi and village industries from Rs 66 cr to Rs 100 cr for the next financial year 2013-2014.This was confirmed by none other than Union Minister of State for MSME (Independent) KH Muniyappa in Guwahati.  He said that the decision was taken at a meeting with Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and senior officials . Renowned vaishnavite veteran Sonaram Chutia passed away after a brief ailment on Wednesday. Chutia died at the Jorhat Medical College Hospital at 9.15 in the evening. He was 98 and was accorded with cabinet rank 3 years back. Born on June 8 in 1915, Chutia cleared his graduation in science from Cotton College. Karimganj police on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of a youth for torturing a five-year-old girl. The five-year-old girl, who went missing on January 28 evening, was found lying in a paddy field with severe injuries near her house at Pinnagar village on January 29. Her father alleged that she was raped by the youth, who was arrested by the police on the basis of the allegation. But the youth claimed that he was asked by the girl's father to take her home but she entered a wedding function on the way and went missing from there. Medical examination revealed that she was tortured and severely beaten up but whether she was raped or not was yet to be ascertained.The girl is undergoing...
