Militant diktat defied

Defying diktat by ULFA-I, NDFB-S and KLO, Assam joins Republic Day celebrations on Sunday pledging to remain united democratic country.

Governor JB Patnaik unfurled the national tricolor before taking the salute of the march past by army, police para military forces, NCC scouts and guides at the Veterinary Playground in Khanapara in the morning. Thousands of people thronged the venue to attend the colourful function.

Health and family welfare minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma unfurled the tricolor at Amingaon in the outskirt of Guwahati at a function attended by people in large number.

Dibrugarh: Revenue minister Prithvi Majhi unfurled the flag and took salute of the march past by police, para military forces along with school children at the Chowkidingi Playground.

Bongaigaon: Amid tight security transport minister Chandan Brahma unfurled the national flag and urged the people to remain calm saying that the need of the hour is peace to pave the way for development.
