Feasting fest: Magh Bihu

Bhogali Bihu begins on Monday. The stage is all set to celebrate the much vaunted event across the state. The day long festival slated for Tuesday begins with feasting and merriment on Monday evening.
People of all ages, of all walks of life are gearing up to celebrate the bihu with traditional pomp and gaiety. Despite price hike shops and markets are teeming with customers.
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi had his Urukua shopping in the Beltola market on Sunday. Talking to reporters he admitted that price hike make it difficult for the common people to afford everything.
Bihu preparations seem to have reached the final stage with only a few hours left for the festival. Bhelaghars of different types made of straw and stubble across the state are ready for the Uruka night on Monday where the people would hold feast in the evening. Similarly wooden majis are being erected in the public places to be set afire in the name of worship of the firegod on Tuesday morning.
Cultural functions and fairs are lined up for the bihu. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has wished the people a happy bhogali bihu. Assamtimes family is also gearing up to celebrate the bihu at its headquarters in Guwahati. The news portal further wishes its correspondents, stringers, columnists and well wishers a happy Magh bihu.
