Uncertainty persists over Indo-B’desh deal

Once again the Indo-Bangladesh Land Demarcation Bill runs into an uncertain future.

An uproarious scenes in the Rajys Sabha put on hold the controversial deal where Assam would have to lose its plot to the neighbouring country.

AGP and Trinamool Congress Mps tore the bill as soon External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid introduced the Bill in the Rajya Sabha Bill on Wednesday.

TMC alleged that the Bill was introduced through the back door by the Congress.

The Bill provides for exchange of certain territories between India and Bangladesh and demarcation of the border as per the 1974 agreement between the then Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi and her Bangaldeshi counterpart.
