Honorary doctorate for former Guwahati Archbishop

Archbishop emeritus Thomas Menamparampil of Guwahati will be conferred an honorary doctoral degree in Missiology at the University of Urbaniana, Rome, November 14. He is being honoured along with Professor Gerald Anderson of Hamden Connecticut, USA, who had earlier been heading a theological institute in the Philippines and was responsible for many missiological publications.  The commencement of the academic year ceremonies will be held in the University. This will be followed by presentation of the doctoral candidates.

The origins of URBANIANA University date back to Pope Urban VIII who decided to establish the Urban College on 1 August, 1627.  From its beginnings, the Urbaniana has always been an academic institution with a missionary character that has served the Catholic Church through the formation of missionaries and experts in the area of Missiology or other disciplines, necessary in the evangelization activity of the Church. Since 1966, the Urbaniana has accepted the affiliation of Seminaries and Institutes of Philosophy, Theology, Missiology, and Canon Law from all over the world. Today, the University has about 1400 students.
