CLP targets huge win in LS polls

Ending all differences the Congress legislatures on Saturday vowed to unitedly fight the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Dispur. Talkinp to reporters at the end of the CLP meet, Gogoi said that the differences among the ministers and MLAs were sorted out adding that the time has come to stand united to put up a rare performance in the upcoming general polls. "We do target the all 14 seats in the polls," said a visibly relaxed Gogoi flanked by Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and Rockybul Hussain who later took Gogoi to Koinadhara.       Contrary to what was expected, the CLP meet ended peacefully in presence of APCC chief Bhubneswar Kalita in Dispur which contined till 2PM. Sources told assamtime that AICC has asked Dr Sarma and his associates to keep quiet. Then the dissident lot had little option to take on Gogoi, Rockybul, Bordoloi et al.

Congress candidate Debobrata Saikia won the Nazira constituency by a margin pf 14723 votes. He defeated his nearest rival Prahlad Tasa of BJP who got 37928 votes.

Guwahati: Independent MLA from Sivasagar has strongly objected to the state assembly Speaker’s ruling on cross voting in the Rajya Sabha polls. Guwahati: A mounting pressure from the major political parties is likely to force the state election authority to revise the schedule for the upcoming GMC polls slated for April 19.      Major political parties have moved state election offices demanding a revised schedule of GMC polls covering 60 wards in the capital city. The Assam contractual teachers' association on Thursday staged a massive protest in support of various demands, including the regularization of jobs. Guwahati: After months of will-it-won’t-it, the state election commission on Wednesday announced the schedule for the Guwahati Municipal Corporation. The poll for the state’s largest urban local body will take place on April 19 covering 60 wards. According to official information, 7,96,829 voters will exercise their franchise at 789 booths from 7-30 in the morning till 5.30 in the afternoon. The authorities have announced the notification where the model code of conduct has come into force. Counting will take place on April 21.

Kokrajhar: Rangaura Narzary will contest the Rajya Sabha polls slated for March 31. Narzary will receive support as UPPL, the ruling coalition allies for the second seat, while BJP has sealed the fate of the first seat with Pabitra Margherita as the candidate. Narzary, the UPPL candidate, is getting support from BJP,  AGP and BPF against Ripun Bora of Congress who is expecting support from the Opposition parties.
New Delhi: Congress has named Ripun Bora as the party candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha poll slated for March 31.
