AASU , Raha Unit burns land deal bill

The Raha Unit of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) today burnt the copies of the 129th Constitutional Amendment Bill at Raha Chariali to oppose the India-Bangladesh land-swap deal. According to AASU ,the bill, prepared to materialise the deal, was be introduced in the Rajya Sabha today. Once the bill becomes an act, India will transfer its 111 civilian enclaves on the Bangladesh side of the border to Bangladesh. In return, India will get 51 Bangladeshi civilian enclaves that are inside the Indian border. The government earlier tried to introduce the bill in the budget session but failed to do so as two AGP MPs — Biren Baishya and Kumar Deepak Das — snatched the bill from the floor of the House, AASU said. “Who has given the right to chief minister Tarun Gogoi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to transfer Assam’s land to Bangladesh?” asked AASU Raha unit president Sanjoy Kakati while talking to this correspondent here today. The students’ union said the lands that are proposed to be transferred to Bangladesh from Assam and vice versa — all belong to Assam. The demonstrators also shouted slogans against the Congress government in center and Assam CM Tarun Gogoi.
