Section 144 promulgated in Kamrup (M)

The Additional District Magistrate of Kamrup (Metro) has promulgated Section 144 for safety, security and maintenance of public peace and tranquillity. In view of the above, riding of more than one person or pillion riding on any two wheeled vehicles for 24 hours within the entire district of Kamrup (M) has been prohibited.

However, there are few exceptions like – persons above the age of 60, ailing persons travelling to and fro from any hospital, persons of police and armed forces in uniform, physically handicapped and school children in uniform.

This order comes into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force until further order.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said the government is willing to talk with the protestors if they shun the path of violence.In a statement on Sunday, Gogoi said the doors for negotiations are always open for those who eschew violence and come forward for talks. “Violence will not solve any problems. Assam government has prohibited strikes in the state by Officers, Workmen, Contract Labour, Tanker, Driver and also Khalasis involved in the service in the Oil or Gas Sector for a further period of 6 (six) months from the date of issue of the notification until further orders.It may be noted that as per provisions of item (xii) of clause (b) of sub-section (i) of section 2 of Essential Services Maintenance Act, 1980, strikers involved with any service in any Oil field or Refinery of any establishment or undertaking dealing with the production, supply or distribution of Petroleum and Petroleum products including natural gas will fall under the purview of the ban.
