Workshop on 'Media and Environment' at Nameri
Assam (Bhoreli) Angling and Conservation Association organised a state level workshop on media and environment on July 20 at Nameri Eco Camp. Media persons belonging to both leading print and electronic from Guwahati,Tezpur,Udalguri etc participated in the day long programme. The morning session with the topic “Responsibility of the Media in Conservation” was inaugurated by KK Bhattacharjee,Hony,Secretary, A(B)ACA and was conducted by its executive member Naomi Agarwalla. Green Reporter, Mubina Akhtar attended the workshop as the co-ordinator.
On the occasion she stressed the need for creating awareness among common people living in the areas where bio-diversity had suffered most. She also requested fellow journalists to highlight environmental issues with priority. Nature loving civil service officer Dr. Anowaruddin Choudhuri; Dr. Arupjyoti Saikia of IIT, Guwahati also addressed media persons present. Second session with the topic “Medias role in upholding Nameris Natural Heritage” was also presented by Naomi Agarwalla. Retd Conservator RC Bhattarcharjee; Dr. Gautam Narayan, Project Director, Pigmy Hog Conservation Programme; Dr. Asaha Lata Devi,Deptt of Environment Science, Tezpur University and Dr. Gaurangi Maitra (freelance writer) participating in the discussion expressed their views on the conservation activities to be taken for protecting flora and fauna of Assam and NE with special reference to Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary, Balipara Reserve Forest etc. Col.A Sarma, Commanding Officer,Eco Task Force of Indian Army also shared views with media fraternities present. Debojit Sarma, Hony Treasurer, A(B)ACA, offered vote of thanks at the end. The participants were taken to Pigmy Hog Conservation Programme attached to Eco Camp site for on spot study of of the endangered species.
It needs mention that Eco Camp,Nameri has been guiding nature loving people around the globe to venture into Nameri National Park for years and has been well-marked as a getaway for nature lovers and bird watchers. Bird watchers can watch 370 species of birds in the park.Besides the Eco Camp offers facilities like rafting down the Jia Bhorolu river.
