Ban on strikes in Assam

Assam government has prohibited strikes in the state by Officers, Workmen, Contract Labour, Tanker, Driver and also Khalasis involved in the service in the Oil or Gas Sector for a further period of 6 (six) months from the date of issue of the notification until further orders.

It may be noted that as per provisions of item (xii) of clause (b) of sub-section (i) of section 2 of Essential Services Maintenance Act, 1980, strikers involved with any service in any Oil field or Refinery of any establishment or undertaking dealing with the production, supply or distribution of Petroleum and Petroleum products including natural gas will fall under the purview of the ban.

One-man inquiry committee on MLA assault

The state government has constituted a one man inquiry committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary P.P. Verma, to inquire into the incident of alleged assault on the MLA of Mariani Rupjyoti Kurmi, by Police and CRPF Personnel on May 24, 2013 at Mariani. Scholarship Examination on May 22 and 23
