Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. Four BJP legislators have written to state party president Sarbananda Sonowal clearing their position over the voting controversy in the recent Rajya Sabha polls.Ranjit Das, Manoranjan Das, Dilip Moran and Jadav Deka have apprised Sonowal of how they toed on the party line.They said that they got their ballot papers verified by the party agent Prasanta Phukan before dropping the papers into the boxes.Only the party agent Phukan dropped his ballot papers into the boxes without proper verification.

A tea garden manager was rescued in Jorhat district on Sunday 24 hours after he was kidnapped by a group of miscreants from Titabor.Identified as Moon Mahanta, the Lakhimijan Tea Estate manager claimed to have escaped from the abductors a day after he was whisked away from the office at gunpoint.Police later rescued him and took for medical test. The incident took place on Friday when armed miscreants took away the manager of the tea garden as he was disbursing salaries to the workers in the afternoon.
Security forces claimed to have killed two dreaded GNLA militants at an encounter in Goalpara district bordering Meghalaya on Sunday.According to information, the encounter took place during a combing operation at Borjhara area in Lakhipur in the wee hours.Police further recovered pistols and some ammunitions from their possession.
