Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. The Kamrup district session court on Monday acquitted the former education minister in the sensational Danila Topnno murder case.In its final hearing the lower court in Guwahati announced that there is no evidence to implicate the senior Congress leader.Notably, Bora was dropped as the education minister in 2007 after CBI nabbed him on bribery allegation in connection with the murder case.He was further suspended from the party and was not fielded in the 2011 Assembly polls. The ruling party, however, fielded his wife Manika Bora who won the polls.    
Thousands of KMSS activists hit the streets in Sivasagar on Monday alleging horse trading in the recent Rajya Sabha polls.Led by its president Akhil Gogoi, the protestors staged dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office alleging rampant corruption by the Congress government.He said that the corrupt must not be spared and that the peasants must be taken care of. Caught in a barrage of criticism over his absence from the Rajya Sabha polls, AIUDF legislator Ataur Rahman Majarbhuyan blames it all on the party president Badaruddin Ajmal Seth for it.Talking to reporters immediately after landing at the Silchar Airport on Sunday, he said that it was Ajmal who forced him to shy away from the exercise.According to him, Ajmal assured him of initiatives to manage any situation in his absence. BJP state president Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday instituted probe into the voting controversy in the Rajya Sabha polls.Headed by Mison Ranjan Das, the committee would closely probe the allegations that a BJP legislator intentionally got his ballot cancelled to help Congress and BPF win the polls.The committee would send the probe report to the party’s parliamentary panel for action against the guilty legislator. Before that Phukan announced that he would move the court to unearth the truth.
