Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. The Assam Government on Saturday announced a set of new industrial policy.Addressing a press conference in Dispur, industry minister Pradyut Bordoloi said that the policy would thrust small scale industries.He further said that industries on nonagricultural plots would be encouraged. But in the same breath, Bordoloi said that agricultural plots won’t be utilized for any industrial purpose.
UPA government came in for sharp criticism in Narendra Modi’s speech at a huge rally in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday.Modi, the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate in his address at Pasighat said that the UPA government has failed on all fronts.He said that the UPA government does not listen to even the Congress chief ministers. He further deplored lack of initiatives to utilize the forest resources in the north eastern state.

The Centre will set up a panel of experts to study the separate Bodoland issue.The decision was announced when Bodoland National Convention held tripartite talks in New Delhi on Friday. According to sources, a one man committee will thoroughly study the feasibility and viability of the Bodoland demand.
Encouraged by the huge and successful rallies, BJP will further hold two huge rallies to be addressed by Narendra Modi in March.Senior party leaders told Assam Times that the BJP prime ministerial candidate has been requested to attend two rallies on March 13 in Lakhimpur and Dibrugarh.The second one rally has yet to be confirmed. But they hoped that both the rallies would help the party woo huge voters.    
BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi said that if his party comes to power, then he would rehabilitate the family members of Ananta Hazarika and Gopi Gogoi. The duo died after attending the recent rally in Guwahati.  Immediately after landing at the Dibrugarh Airport on Saturday morning, Modi met the two family members and shared their worries.Modi told the two family members that he would rehabilitate them at his own initiatives as soon as he becomes the prime minister.Hazarika died after falling from a moving train while Gogoi was found dead under mysterious circumstances on the river Brahmaputra in Guwahati.
The Assam Government is seriously considering formation of ten more districts citing stress on congenial governance.The move to form these new districts and over 30 sub divisions started when the group of ministers set up to deal with the proposal met in Dispur on Friday.The meeting discussed the criterion for formation of the new districts. If things move on right direction, the state is set to get these new districts before the Assembly polls.      
Amid tight security, Narendra Modi landed in Dibruagrh on Saturday morning en route to Arunachal Pradesh.The BJP’s prime ministerial candidate landed at Dibrugarh Airport at 10-15 in the morning to be received by BJP leader Kamakhya Prasad Tasa.During his brief halt in Dibrugarh Airport, the Gujarat Chief Minister talked to the family members of Ananta Hazarika and Gopi Gogoi who died after attending the recent rally in Guwahati.Then he left for Arunachal Pradesh by a helicoopter at 10-30 to attend a huge rally in Pasighat.
The Asom Gana Parishad is holding its steering committee meeting in Guwahati on Saturday to chalk out strategies for the Lok Sabha polls slated for May.To be presided over by president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta at the party headquarters in Ambari, the meeting is expected to take a final decision on forging a post poll alliance with other political parties.Friday’s meeting failed to arrive at a consensus. The party has yet to finalise the list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
