I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. AGP on Wednesday sharply criticized Rahul Gandhi a day after the Congress vice president slammed the regional parties for failures on all fronts.Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, party president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta said that Gandhi had no rights to criticize AGP.Mahanta questioned Gandhi’s silence on the genuine problems confronting Assam and its people.He further lambasted Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for comparing Gandhi with Lachit Borphukan on Tuesday. 
Normal surface communication came to a grinding halt on the National Highway No 37 when Rahul Gandhi was holding a huge road show in Nagaon on Wednesday.The vehicles bound for Guwahati were not allowed to cross beyond Jakhalabandhi while the Sivasagar bound buses were stopped at Roha hours before the road show.Local residents told Assam Times that the traffic snarl took place only due to lack alternative arrangement to clear the vehicles during the road show.
