Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. Jintul Talukdar from BhawanipurChief Minister Tarun Gogoi claimed on Tuesday that Congress would be able to put up a commendable performance in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Talking to reporters at Bhawanipur, Gogoi said that media can’t stop Congress poll prospect in Assam. “In the past, a section of news papers and TV channels predicted my defeat. But that did not happen. This time also we will win with flying colours,” said the chief minister.

A police man has been suspended in Guwahati for inhuman torture he inflicted on a city bus driver who refused to pay hi m money.The incident took place in Jalukbari area in the city where the policemen asked him to pay fine for halting at unauthorized place. Akhil Gogoi’s mother Priyoda Gogoi is on a hunger strike near Jorhat on Tuesday demanding immediate release of her son who was arrested on Sunday in connection with the recent self immolation case.Flanked by 50 local KMSS workers, Gogoi began her hunger strike at her own residence in Teok from Tuesday morning.Several local organizations also have visited her and promised help.
Two poachers are believed to have sustained injury at an encounter with forest guards in Kaziranga on Tuesday.The encounter took place in the wee hours near Luit forest camp in the Sixth addition of the national park where the poachers are believed to have been injured.A team of forest guards are looking for the injured poachers inside the national park. Forest guards further claimed to have seized a boat along with some bullets from the spot.
KMSS activists are thronging in thousands in Guwahati to hold a meeting in protest against the arrest of Akhil Gogoi who was arrested on Sunday in connection with the Dispur self immolation case.Several prominent citizens are joining the meeting at Dighalipukhuri demanding immediate release of the KMSS president who is in police custody.After the meeting, they would submit a memorandum before the deputy commissioner demanding his immediate rally.
One person died and five others have been injured when suspected ULFA militants exploded a powerful bomb in Tinsukia.The explosion took place at Sripura around 8-30 in the morning where one person was killed on the spot.The injured have been rushed to the hospital after the arrival of police. No organization has so far owned up the responsibility of the blast. But it is believed to be a handiwork of ULFA.
