NCERT to remove sentence on Northeast from Text Book

Union Tourism Secretary Pervez Dewan has asked the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to remove a line in the class 10 geography textbooks that tells that tourism has not been encouraged in the north-east and interior parts of the Himalayas for “strategic reasons”. The Secretary has informed the petitioner Kavya Barnadhya Hazarika, a Class XI student at Maharishi Vidya Mandir Senior School, Guwahati, that he had requested NCERT to remove the “careless sentence”.

The Assam government has urged the Centre to support the cold-chain development project in Assam for the benefit of farmers and consumers.
