Dearth teachers at Raha

At a time when the state education department claims better functioning of government schools, the ground reality tells a different story.

The Arts and Science stream students of Raha H.S.School are facing acute shortage of teaching staff especially Chemistry and Geography teachers from the past several years. The conscious parents and residents of the town said to this correspondent that the students of science stream have been studying chemistry subject in the school without a teacher since 2009 . The post has been lying vacant since then and no one has been appointed till now by the authority which hampers the students drastically to get education in the school ”, the parents further said. What surprises most is that the students have been appearing examinations without a chemistry teacher since the aforesaid year.

The same is the case with the arts stream students . The students of XI and XII standard are studying Geography in the school without a teacher since last 2 years. The students find it hard to deal with the subject and many of them have already left the subject due to the dearth of a teacher. The vacant posts of teachers have pushed the students of this higher institution towards darkness.

Talking to this correspondent, the students said , “ We do not understand why the authority concerned has not appointed any teacher to fill the vacant posts of these two subjects. We have been suffering a lot in receiving education in these two subjects and the concerning authority remains silent to our problem.’’

When contacted, Gajendra Kalita , the in-charge principal of the school admitted that the students of higher grade classes have been receiving education in the school without teachers in Chemistry and Geography subjects. “ We have informed the higher authority about the problem the students facing and ask them to appoint teachers in these two subjects as soon as they could. But there is no action so far’’ he said.

The conscious parents and residents are in the hope that before the problem will worsen the higher education department takes some immediate measures to fill the vacant posts of the teachers in these two subjects so that no students could show interest to immigrate to other institution.

Foreign liquors seized in Nagaon

Nagaon: A team of Flying Squad comprising of Nagaon police and Excise personnel today seized 42 cartoons of foreign liquer at Sialmari from a Tata Magic vehicle bearing no. AS 02 BC 7095. Dacoit died in Nagaon gangwar

RAHA: A dreaded dacoit died and another sustained serious injury when a gang war took place in Nagaon on Sunday. The incident took place at Nagabandha in the wee hours where a group of armed dacoits were travelling on a vehicle. As they reached Juria suddenly they spotted another gang and started gun firing at each other.  Identified as Jonab Ali, an infamous died on the spot while another sustained serious injury who is fighting to survive at the hospital. Land of trouble for Rockybul

NAGAON: A team of chief minister’s anti corruption and vigilance cell is raiding Rockybul Hussain’s properties in Samoguri, Amoni and Puroni Gudam areas on Friday a day after the enquiry in a number of spots in Nagaon town to ascertain the veracity of the allegations of having illegal properties. Watery grave for minor boys in Kapili

RAHA: Two minor boys met watery grave when the duo along with a few others were going to bath in a river in Nagaon district on Saturday. The incident took place in Chapormukh area at around 11.30 in the morning as they were bathing on the river Kopili. Suddenly, the river water  current washed Akash Rai  and Mukti Prasad Bora—both studying in Hansora School who failed to bail out of the strong undercurrent. Local residents in large number along with SDRF personnel arrived in the spot and fished out the bodies leaving a pall of gloom in the area.

Girl raped inside auto in Nagaon

RAHA: Yet another rape incident in Nagaon sends no less shock and sensation across the state. The victim hails from Jagiroad whom a neighbour took away to the central Assam town and rape inside an auto before dumping her at the Mukut Sarma Road in broad day light.The eyewitnesses rescued the girl and the police have registered a case. A team of Nagaon police is looking for Moinul who allegedly took away the girl and raped inside the vehicle.

Coal trucks seized in Raha

RAHA: In a stepped up crackdown across the state against the illegal coal traders, the police in Raha intercepted five coal truck on Tuesday. Acting on a tip off the policeman on the National Highway No 37 seized the five trucks loaded with coal early in the morning. The drivers, who have been detained, confessed to have brought the huge consignment to Guwahati from Jowai in Meghalaya. Interrogation is going on. Despite restrictions on trade and transportation, a section of traders keep dealing in coal these days.

Biker dead in road mishap at Raha

RAHA: A biker died when he lost control over his vehicle before it rammed into the divider on the National Highway No 37 in Raha on Wednesday.The mishap took place at Phulguri in the afternoon when  Amarjyoti Deka, a resident of  Kasomari was riding on his two wheeler which hit the divider. Dreaded dacoit held in Nagaon
