Assam players won golds at the International Invitation Karate Championship 2013 held at University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka on June 9.

The winners are Manjit Dihingia – 2 Golds, Raju Kachari – 1 Gold, Dipu Tanti – 1 Gold and Sushmita Paul – 1 Gold.

Guwahati: A lower court in Guwahati on Wednesday asked Kolkata based intellectual Garga Chatterjee to surrender before it by August 27. The court has issued the order after the court was apprised that Chatterjee who made defamatory remarks against first Ahom king Chaulung Sukafa. The court further slammed the failure of Kolkata police to arrest the Bangla Pakhya leader even after a nonbailable warrant was issued. TEZPUR: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has ordered an inquiry into the group clashes in Sonitpur district where 12 people sustained injury in an attack as they were taking out a bike procession in support of the Ayodhya event on Wednesday. Guwahati: An orgy of violence has rocked Sonitpur district where a few people sustained injury and some vehicles were burnt down on Wednesday.  The incident took place in the afternoon when a group of unidentified miscreants attacked some people as they took out a procession in support of the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Ram temple at Ayodhya.
