Dharna demanding repoll at Langting

Langting

In continuation of their agitation at Langting, several hundreds of public from Langting stage dharna in front the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Haflong on Monday.

They are demanding repoll at Langting constituency of N C Hills Autonomous Council and inquiry into the alleged anomaly during the recently concluded election to the 11th N C Hills Autonomous Council from where former Chief Executive Member Debojeet Thaosen won the election.

The people of Langting have been observing indefinite strike at Langting from last Wednesday following which the normal life utterly affected at Langting. They said the total vote cast certified by the deputed Presiding Officer was found to be 4, O71 but during the counting of votes that took place on 24-O6-2013 it was found that the total vote cast went up to 4077. It came to their notice during the time of sealing of the Ballot Box of 4-Boro-Lambung L.P.School Polling Station, the total number of vote cast shown by the Presiding Officer was 924, but during the time of counting of votes at Haflong the total vote cast was 930, which has 6 more votes than the number of vote cast during the sealing of the ballot box of Boro-Lambong L.P.School Polling Station. During the counting of votes that total number of vote cast in the ballot box of Boro-Lambong L.P.School P.S. has been increased by 6 votes vis-a-vis the total number of vote cast during the polling day. Hence, the grand total number of votes of 14-Langting A/C Constituency appeared to be 4077 during the counting of votes instead of having the correct grand total number of votes - 4071, which is grossly irregular, unjustified and undemocrate. On seeing such anomalies in the number of ballot papers of Boro-Lambung L.P.School Polling Station, the concerned counting agents raised their objection to the anomalies time and again during the time of counting votes, but the authorities concerned turned deaf ear to the objection raised by the counting agent. Instead, Mr. Debojeet Thaosen was declared a winning candidate amidst the objection raised against the anomalies in the number of ballot papers particularly in respect of Boro-Lalbong L.P.Shcool Polling Station.,

They warned the government if the government fails to fulfill their demand of re poll and enquiry, then they would be compelled to go for stronger agitation in near future for which government would be held responsible for any untoward incident. They also disclosed that there might be ‘bloodshed’ if the government ignores their rights. Further they said earlier, they had given ultimatum up to June 10 for the response from the government otherwise they would go for train blockade from June 11.

Earlier, a procession was taken out from Town Committee Field (Lal field) to the office of the Deputy Commissioner and staged sit-in-demonstration.

Later they submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Assam through the Deputy Commissioner, Dima Hasao District, Haflong.
