Grenade recovered at Haflong

Haflong police recovered a live grenade (No.36) from a flower pot at the residence of one Peter Sumer, Forest range Officer located near Ram Krishna Mission, Haflong on Saturday morning.

It is learnt that on Friday night at about 9 pm two unidentified boys came in search of Sumer but as he was not at home, wife of Sumer told them to come to the office next day if they have any works with Peter Sumer. At this, the boys left the place but at about 9.30 they heard the sound of something thrown at their home.

They later in the morning informed the police who came immediately and recovered the grenade from flower pot in the campus. Assam Riffle was also informed and arrangement to defuse the grenade was being carried out.

Police however termed the act as the act of miscreants not of any militant’s organization.

Talking to this correspondent, S C Das, DSP disclosed that they have started their investigation and hoped that they would be able to trace the culprits soon.

A sense of panic began to prevail in and around the Haflong Town ship following the recovery of a live grenade from a residence.
