JFA appeal to CM to tackle land mafias

Expressing serious concern over the ongoing activities of land mafias in the state and especially in Guwahati, Journalist Forum Assam (JFA) has appealed to the chief minister Tarun Gogoi to take serious measures to tackle it. JFA also expressed displeasure at the role played by the administration and police at the recent incident when an anti-social lobby targeted senior journalist and Guwahati Press Club official Dayanath Singh at his Birubari residence.

His neighbour Pradeep Dey conspired to evict Singh from his own residence who has been living at the place for than two decades. A delegation from the Guwahati Press Club has also met the Assam DGP Jayanata Narayan Choudhury regarding this and requested him to take proper action.

“I allowed to Dey to stay in my home for a night’s stay at his hour of crisis. But now he is demanding that this house is his. Now, he is causing trouble to me taking my goodwill as my weakness,” said Singh.

JFA secretary Nava Thakuria said that if the state government and the administration do not take immediate and strict measures the common people will continue to suffer like this.
