Nazira AASU expells vice president

Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, vice president of Nazira Regional Student Union is expelled from AASU for his anti organisational activities. In a recent press release Himanta Saikia, president and Sabri Ishlam Secretary of Nazira Regional Student Union informed that the decission was taken at their executive meeting and they requested everybody not to contact with Mahanta regarding AASU.

A huge scam in health department seems to have raised doubts over the Government’s sincerity to inject new hopes in the entire department. The scam that rocked the heavily manned department took place in the recruitment of various staff members where genuine educated unemployed have been deprived of their privileges. To resolve the burning issue of Assam-Nagaland border and reduce the tention among the people in the border areas, a harmony meeting was organised at Singibill Bazzar on Friday. The meeting was presideed by social activist Hemo gogoi, MP of Jorhat MP Kamakhya Tasa, DC of Sivasagar Narayan Kunwar, SP A.P.Tewari, SDO(C) Syed Zahid Chisty, SDPO of Nazira Rajendra Ojja, Nagaland Forest Minister  P. Panchak, Ex.MLA Chami Aung, border adviser of Nagaland B. Uthi Phum. To maintain the historic harmony of Assam and Nagaland it was unanimously decided in the meeting to continue and exchange peace dialogue between the two states.
CPI leaders and activists in Nazira joined the statewide protest on Wednesday outlining the issues of price hike,   inflation, Flood and erosion. Speakers in the protest meeting demanding immediate measures to mitigate the misery of the common people. In his speech, national executive member   Kanak Gogoi said that the central government has been acting as an agent of the capitalists where the common people are bound to suffer. He  said   the decision of the central government for 100% Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) will be a threat to the Sovereignty and urged the people to resist the move.
ULFA(I) virtually scorned the security forces on Monday when the rebels in search of the sovereign Asom exploded a bomb in Charaideo when the district joined the Independence Day on Monday. The explosion took place at Pathaligarh at 8 in the morning which made a huge crater on the spot under the impact of the explosion. There was no casualty or injury.

Forest officials in Sivasagar district captured a leopard which has been creating a reign of terror at a tea garden area in Geleky. Acting on the complaints of the local residents in the Modi Tea Estate area, the forest officials with the help of a group of people laid a trap where the animal landed on Friday night. Then it was sent to a safe place to be rehabilitated much to a major respite for hundreds of people in the entire area who has already lost their domestic animals like cows, goats and pigs.
Freedom fighter, president of Nazira District Freedom Fighters Association and veteran Congress leader Subha Gogoi breathed his last at his residence at Mazenga on Thursday. He was 95 and survived by his wife and three sons. MLA of Nazira Debobrate Saikia, ex. Minister Hemoprobha Saikia, ex. MP Durpad Borgohain and several organisations condoled in his death.

The protest over the oilfield auctioning move gathers momentum when AASU activists in large number staged mass demonstration in Nazira on Wednesday asking the government not to proceed. Led by AASU adviser Dr Samujjal Bhattacharyee along with president Dipankar Nath and General Secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi, hundreds of AASU activists Gana Satyagraha in front of the ONGC’s Assam Asset in Nazira with a voew to oppose the move tooth and nail.
