7 Salt Brook Academy students among HS rank holders

As many as 7 students from Salt Brook Academy, Dibrugarh managed to secure ranks among the top ten positions in the HSSLC examination 2013. In the science steam, Anwesha Phukan bagged the 2nd rank by scoring 473 marks with 94.3 per cent. In the HSLC examination in 2011, Anwesha had secured the 3rd position appearing from BL Beria Saraswati Shishu Mandir, Dibrugarh. A talented sportsperson, Anwesha had won six gold medals in athletics while representing the north-east in the national school games organised by Vidya Bharati. Anwesha’s father teaches chemistry in DHSK College, Dibrugarh while her mother teaches Mathematics in MDK Girls’ College of the town.

“I was not expecting a rank but was confident of a good result. The credit goes to my teachers and parents for their support and guidance.  I use to study 8-10 hours daily but didn’t take tuition in any subjects. I’ve not yet decided about my future plans,” said Anwesha.

The 6th rank in Science went to Kalyanjyoti Bhattacharya of Salt Brook Academy who managed to score 469 marks while Amrita Chakraborty with 466 marks bagged the 9th position. Manish Haloi of the same school secured the 10th rank with 465 marks.

In the Commerce stream, 3 students of Salt Brook Academy managed to secure ranks among the top ten. Abhishek Hazarika bagged the 9th rank with 437 marks while Dipankar Dutta and Parama Das jointly grabbed the 10th spot with 436 marks each. Significantly, Dipankar Dutta who comes from a financially weak family had financed his education by giving private tuitions to students. The eldest among three siblings, including two younger sisters his father Tulsi Dutta works as a clerk in MDK Girls’ College, Dibrugarh while his mother Mina is a house wife.

“I use to give tuitions to students of class V to X from 6 to 8 in the morning before going to classes and from 4 to 6 in the afternoon after coming home. I tried to follow sincerely what our teachers taught us in the classroom. I couldn’t afford tuition myself,” said Dipankar who aspires to become a chartered accountant.

Established in 1995 by Aswini Dowerah, the present Director, Salt Brook Academy, Dibrugarh has managed to carve a niche in the field of quality education by producing as many as 58 rank holders in the HSSLC examinations till date.
