AASU protest over HSLC result anomalies
Golaghat district unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Friday burnt the effigies of Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA), Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. The student body was protesting against the large scale anomalies in declaration of HSLC Examination results. Monowar Hussain, state executive member of AASU told Assamtimes that the state Education Minister Himanta Biswa Saram only makes hiking but fails to translate his words into action and inspite of prior warning to the concerned departments and authorities to be careful in declaring the results, neither the Chief Minister nor SEBA pay any heed but carried on with their egoistic attitude and as a consequence countless students of the state had to go through mental depress. The education minister should take the responsibility and tender his resignation, he added.

Journalists from various media organisations today conducted a sit in demonstration in front of DC office Golaghat, protesting alleged assault on Rajib Dey, the camera person of Prime News, a private TV channel by a scrap merchant and demanding the arrest of the culprit. It is to be noted that on 16th September, the scrap merchant was involved in illegal trading of goods formerly seized by the excise department which included a large number of tin drums. Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity’s (KMSS) activists were lathicharged in Tengani area of Golaghat district today. The KMSS activists were staging a rail blockade programme at Jamuguri and Tengani area at Golaghat District demanding the return of the ships carrying turbines to the Lower Subansiri Hydro Electric project. More than 30 people were injured after the Police resorted to lathi-charge and lobbed tear gas shells in a bid to calm the protesters down. A team of CID today arrested one Nekibur Rahman (24) from Mearapani in Golaghat district for allegedly creating a fake profile of State PWD Minister Ajanta Neog on popular social networking site Facebook. A laptop, a mobile phone and SIM card has also been seized from him. In stepped up offensive ahead of Independence Day one person was killed and several others were injured when tribal separatists of the outlawed Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers (KPLT) opened indiscriminate firing along the National Highway 37 in Panbari area near Bokakhat in Golaghat district.
