An Assam police team is leaving West Bengal to seek the remand of Sudipta Sen a day after the Saradha Group chief was brought to Kolkata.
According to sources, the team would interrogate Sen in connection with the chit-fund scam. He said three staff-members of Saradha Group were arrested in 2012 in connection with a cheating case in Jorhat.
So far, 222 cases have been registered against 128 chit fund companies in the State. A Special Investigation Team probing the cases has so far filed charge sheets against 42 persons and 15 companies in 17 cases. So far, 303 persons have been arrested. Nearly Rs. 94 lakh in cash has been seized and amount of Rs. 24 crore frozen. Police have seized 106 bank accounts have been frozen while steps are being taken for the attachment of a number of landed properties including 99 bighas of land and buildings which have been identified.
The companies now under scanner are Saradha Group, Rose Valley, Unipay 2U, Jeevan Suraksha, Prayag, Abyss Assam Group Co, Basil International Ltd., Alliance Vision Marketing Pvt. Ltd and Daffodils Group of Companies.

One person is arrested by Nazira police in connection of ATM theft case. According to police Ghanshyam Sharmah (38) stolen the ATM Card of Dilip Das of Nazira and withdrawn Rs.26000/- by using this card. A case is registered in this regard in Nazira police Station under IPC 379.

Braving a rising mercury voters are lined up across 862 booths in the ongoing civic polls in Guwahati city on Wednesday. Assamtimes team came to see the huge queue of voters even before 7 in the morning. Talking Assamtimes, polling authorities hoped that the turn out would cross 80 percent. Altogether 7,06,689 voters are expected to excercise their franchise in the single phase polling on Wednesday.
Worse is yet to come for Asom Gana Parishad. The party now stands crippled with escalating revolt against president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta. His alleged autocratic style of functioning is believed to have forced a circle of dedicated party leaders to join the ruling Congress. Vice president Apurba Bhattacharya will join Congress on June 24. His trusted men are also in touch with the ruling party. Party insiders blame Mahanta and his associates for the impending exodus. Amid tight security polling in the Guwahati civic bodies begins across the city. Over 7 lakh voters are free to decide on the fate of172 ward councillors along with 356 area sabha candidates. Preparations are complete to ensure smooth conduct of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) election on Wednesday.There will be 15 zonal magistrates and 72 sector officers monitoring the situation across the city in order to maintain law and order during the election. Rana Goswami and Bhupen Bora have resigned as parliamentary secretaries a day after their appointment as AICC secretaries in deference to the party’s one-man-one-post policy. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi accepted their resignations this evening.
