Dima Hasao gearing up for Council's election

In order to ensure smooth and proper management and free fair, peaceful conduct to the forthcoming 11th N.C. Hills Autonomous Council Election 2013, a meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Haflong with all Heads of Offices of the State, Central, Semi States, Public Sector Undertaking Boards and Co-operation etc. Chairman of the meeting M.K Das, ADC apprised that the State Election Commission will soon issue elections date to the N.C Hills Autonomous Council. At the meeting preliminary matters related to the forthcoming election were discussed and also rules and regulations to be abided by all during the Model code of conduct period. Das also informed that in the election there will be ten zones and each zone will be under Zonal Magistrates and zones will again be sub-divided under Sector Magistrates. He said that the selection for zonal and sector magistrates have been done who will be notified soon. Training to presiding officers and to all poll related officials will be completed in the next 20 days. He also requested all the Departments to expedite submission of names of their staff for polling personnels. It needs to be mentioned that the N.C Hills Autonomous Council has 28 Autonomous Constituencies.

Strong resentment was expressed by the Dima Halam Daogah (Jewel) over the army atrocities on its cadres those are staying at their respective designated camps at Maibang, Jatinga, Kapurcherra and Haflong communicating office on July 10. The 100 hours bandh from tomorrow 4 am by the North Cachar Hills Indigenous Students Forum (NCHISF) has been withdrawn following assurance from the government for second round of talks on July 21.
