Dima Hasao gearing up for Council's election

In order to ensure smooth and proper management and free fair, peaceful conduct to the forthcoming 11th N.C. Hills Autonomous Council Election 2013, a meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Haflong with all Heads of Offices of the State, Central, Semi States, Public Sector Undertaking Boards and Co-operation etc. Chairman of the meeting M.K Das, ADC apprised that the State Election Commission will soon issue elections date to the N.C Hills Autonomous Council. At the meeting preliminary matters related to the forthcoming election were discussed and also rules and regulations to be abided by all during the Model code of conduct period. Das also informed that in the election there will be ten zones and each zone will be under Zonal Magistrates and zones will again be sub-divided under Sector Magistrates. He said that the selection for zonal and sector magistrates have been done who will be notified soon. Training to presiding officers and to all poll related officials will be completed in the next 20 days. He also requested all the Departments to expedite submission of names of their staff for polling personnels. It needs to be mentioned that the N.C Hills Autonomous Council has 28 Autonomous Constituencies.

A joint team of 119 Inf Bn TA and Assam Police conducted an operation near Mahur late evening on 14 Oct 12 and recovered huge quantity of explosives from nearby forested area. Twin blast at Haflong on Sunday with an interval of only 30 minutes rocked Haflong. First one was exploded near synod Gallery and Second one was exploded near Statefed godown in Sarkari bagan but no one was injured. Due to blast glass pane of the house of one H Kemprai were damaged. In a bizarre incident one Swapanjay Jorosa, 22 years, a student leader of Haflong Govt College was critically injured when a miscreant shot at him at his residence at Lower Digrik village some 3 km from Haflong Town at about 10 pm on Saturday.
