Anti-tobacco bill soon

Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is hopeful that the bill to ban tobacco is on the cards. Dr Sarma informed the Assam assembly on Wednesday that the bill would be moved after cabinet approval.

the govt should inform all the trade bodies what products are banned or what not banned to save the petty traders from the meaningless harassment from the govt officers and so called many organisations. the sale of smoking items should also be banned in the state.

Raijor Dal Gets ECI Registration

Raijor Dal,  floated in 2020, has finally received the Election Commission of India (ECI) registration. APCC Refutes Reports of more Leaders Deserting the Party

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has refuted reports that some more leaders would soon desert the party. According to some reports, among others,  former minister and MP Prodyut Bordoloi, former minister and MLA Rockeybool Hussain, and former minister Bismita Gogoi would quit the party at any time. Refuting such reports, APCC General Secretary Rana Bora, in a press statement, claimed that no Congress leaders would not quit the party. “ We have noticed that some reports claimed Prodyut Bordoloi, Rockeybool Hussain, Bismita Gogoi are ready to quit Congress. Congress top leader quits party, joins TMC

New Delhi : In yet another significant development in the field of politics,  Assam's former Congress president and outgoing Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora quits the party and joined TMC on Sunday. In his letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Bora alleged that he had no point of continue as Congress leader and former where a section of his party leaders has struck secret deal with BJP or Chief Minister.  Later in the afternoon, Bora joined TMC at a brief function in Kolkata where top TMC leaders were present.  Bora is that ed second top lCobgress eader to have joined TMC after Sushmita Dev.

Emergence of AAP rattles BJP!

Guwahat: AAP has alleged a nefarious attempt by BJP in Guwahati to upset it's prospect for the upcoming GMC polls.  Talking to Assam Times, a senior leader of the party said that BJP/s youth wing has damaged a hoarding in Guwahati on Monday.  He said that this was followed by the removal of a few other AAP banners and hoardings in the Capital city by the administration.  Later in a statement, the newly emerging party said that BJP's the largest ever political party on the planet was rattling at the stepped up electioneering by a very small party which is in power only in two states.  AAP is contesting 40 wards out of 60 in the GMC polls slated for April 22.

Patrial withdrawal of AFSPA

New Delhi: The Centre has withdrawn AFSPA  1958 from 24 districts in view of an improved law and order situation. According to the notification, it would come into force from April 1,2022. Apart from the hills districts, AFSPA will be in force in Sivasagar, Jorhat,  Tinsukia.  Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked the Centre for the decision and hoped that the Act would be a thing of the past for the entire state in the near future. 

Assam,Meghalaya claim border row

New Delhi: Assam and Meghalaya claimed to have settled an interstate border dispute in 6 places at a meeting of Chief Ministers with the Union's home minister in New Delhi on Tuesday. The agreement was formally signed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta  Biswa Sarma and his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma after a meeting that evening. Speaking to reporters waiting outside, the Chief Ministers claimed to have settled a decade-long issue in 6 areas and hoped for the same solution in 6 other remaining areas.  But both sides refused to divulge the details of the agreement, which is likely to trigger protests and anger among people living along the disputed border areas....

MLA upset of ruling on cross voting

Guwahati: Independent MLA from Sivasagar has strongly objected to the state assembly Speaker’s ruling on cross voting in the Rajya Sabha polls. Gogoi said that it was not proper for the Speaker to say that nobody could be disqualified for cross voting in the Rajya Sabha polls. He further alleged the partial role of Assembly Speaker Biswajeet Daimary, accusing him of disrupting the Opposition party MLAs.
