Rhino census underway

The rhino census is set to end on Monday. The two-day exercise is being conducted in all the five ranges of the park — Kohora, Bagori, Burapahar, Agoratoli and Biswanathghat. More than 250 personnel from the state forest department, NGOs and media groups have been engaged in the operation.

The headcount of rhinos in Kaziranga is a regular practice and is conducted to implement a fruitful conservation method. For the census operation, the park has been divided into two parts and 81 blocks. The remaining part on the northern bank of the Difolu, including the chapori areas of the Brahmaputra, is being covered on Monday.
