Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

A special court in Guwahati jailed a DRDA project director on a bribery charge on Thursday. HC notice to Chief Secy

The Gauhati High Court has asked chief secretary VK Pipersenia along with a top bureaucrat to file affidavits on a number of alleged anomalies in the ACS examination conducted by the state public service commission.    Hearing a PIL filed by Okram Prasanta Singha on Thursday Chief Justice (acting) K. Sreedhar Rao issued notices to chief secretary Pipersenia and additional chief secretary Subhas Chandra Das. 5 days CBI remand for Manoranjana

CBI gets remand of Manoranjana Sinh for five days a day after the media baron was arrested in connection with the Sharadha scam. A special court of Alipore remanded Manoranjana to CBI custody on Thursday when she was produced before it alleging her involvement in the multi crore scam.The country’s premier investigation agency arrested her on Wednesday at Kolkata CGO Complex for allegedly taking money from Saradha Group chairman Sudipta Sen in the name of a satellite channel. CBI has levelled charges of misappropriation of funds, cheating and criminal conspiracy against her.  

Manoranjana to be produced in court

JFA condemns scribe’s murder

The Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) has condemned the killing of yet another scribe in Uttar Pradesh and demand a national action plan for justice to those journalists. In a statement, the organization said the murder of Hemant Yadav increased the tally of slaughtered media persons to four this year in the country.Yadav, a middle aged journalist who worked for Hindi news channel TV 24, was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne miscreants on the night of October 3. Manoranjana Sinh’s arrest in the chit fund scam seems to have created no less flutter in both Congress and BJP. CBI arrests Manoranjana Sinh

The Central Bureau of Investigation probing the Saradha scam has arrested media baron Manoranjana Sinh on Wednesday. The former managing director with North East Television has been arrested in Kolkata where she was interrogated for several hours for her alleged involvement in the multi crore chit fund scam. The CBI team will produced before the metropolitan court on Thursday.The jailed Saradha chief Sudipto Sen in her purported letter alleged to have paid for over Rs 20 crore to Sinh to set up a channel in Guwahati. CBI and ED have separately grilled her several times in Kolakta and New Delhi.  

Biker dead in Duliajan mishap

One person died and another sustained serious injury when a bike rammed into another biker in Duliajan on Tuesday. The mishap took place at Chiringkhat where Phuleswar Lahon who was riding on his bike hit another biker Apurba Phatowal from the back side. The duo were rushed to the hospital. But Phatowal succumbed to his injury. Lahon is battling with death at the Assam Medical College Hospital.   

Assam team at rowing champs
