Milād-un-Nabi in Nazira

The birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is considered the most significant event in the history of the world. Though his birthday was never observed by his companions and the second and third generations of Muslims after him who are considered exemplary, some Muslim sects towards the end of the 11th century took to celebrate it as Milād-un-Nabi. The Prophet never celebrated his birthday nor commanded it nor observed those of his family members' or that of his grand childrens'.

At Nazira in Assam, Milād-un-Nabi was observed at the Nazira M.C. Club from February 16th to 17th with great enthusiasm and fervor. Naziran's chose to assemble for the ocassion this month due to paucity of time. The two-day long programme under the chairmanship of Syed Mubidul Islam was attended by Pradip Kumar Das, Dr.Nirupama Mahanta, Saidul Islam and Debobrat Saikia who spoke about the nobility and message of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The event gathered large crowds to the narrations of the different aspects of the Prophet's life.

Milād-un-Nabi is ironically observed in the third month of the Islamic calendar. This year it coincided with January 24th with variants to the Shiites who celebrate it on January 29th.

Excise raid at Nazira: 5 arrested

A team of the Excise offocials of Nazira raided in different parts of Nazira sub-division on Wednesday, including Charaihojia, Deopani, Athkhel, Aideobari and Deoghoria village and seized over 2500 litres of local wine, 5 liters foreign wine, 30 liter DPL and 6 nos. wine processing machines. In this connection 5 persons were arrested.

Bus-truck collison at Kujibali: 8 injured

Eight persons were seriouly injured when a Sivasagar-Nazira bound bus fell in to deep paddy field at Kujibali Hanhchara, near Nazira at around 4 pm on Tuesday. The accident occurred when a speedy truck trying to overtake the bus.

Chelarai Divas celeberated at Nazira

Kuch Rajbanshi Sonmiloni Nazira observed Cherarai Divas at Sundarpukhuri, Nazira with a day-long programme on February 25. In this connection a colourfull cultural processin and a public meeting were organised. Tapan Gogoi, Central general secretary of AASU, Social worker Mukul Chetia etc. were participated in the event as guest of honour.

Dry day in the Assam-Nagaland border areas

Due to the forthcoming general election of Nagaland  on Feburary 23, Sivagagar district administration declared dry day on Feburary 22 and 23 in the Assam-Nagaland border areas. All wine shopes and bars for these 2 days ordered to be closed.On the other hand, tension is going on in the Galekey border area where the Nagaland govt. is trying to establish pooling stations inside Assam and which include names of Assamese voters. Local administration tightened the security in the border areas.

Truck accident in Kujibali Railway crossing

A mini truck is destroyed in Kujibali Rail crossing when Guwahati-Dibrugarh bound Kamakhaya Express hit the truck at 9 AM today. Driver and other 3 persons of the truck were seriously injured in the accident. Sevelal accident is already occared in this open Railway crossing since last  fews years. Local people demanded for a rail gate in this place. They also declared blockkade of train movement on Monday 5 am onwards demanding to set up a  rail crossing gate.

PMEGP Exhibition at Nazira

In association with the Khadi and Gramudug Department, The North East Khadi Gramudug Mohasangha organised a district level PMEGP Exhibition at Nazira Natiya Mandir Campus from Feburary 17-21. Pradip kr. Das SDO(C) Nazira innugurated the exhibition today. Local entriprenures exhibited their product in 10 stalls of the exhibition.

Congress captures Nazira panchayats

Despite raising complaints of corruption and allegations against the rulling Congress Party, they captured almost all the panchayats seats under Nazira subdivision. Oppositions have failled to create an anti-incumbency wave and even they failled to stand candidates in all the seats of Nazira and Sivasagar.In Nazira this time a total of 624 candidates were contesting under Nazira Anchalik Panchayat, of which 14 were contesting for 4 nos. ZP seats, 68 were contesting for 20 nos. GP President seats, 68 nos. were contesting for 20 nos. AP Member seats and 480 nos. were contesting for 200 nos. Ward Member seats. Among these, Congress won 167 ward member seats, 19 AP Member seats, 18 GP President...

Swaraswati Puja at Nazira

Swaraswati Puja is observed in different places of Nazira with flavour and gaity. In this connection a book fair is organised in Sankardev Shisu Niketion, Nazira. Vice president of Nazira District Journalist Association  Bhaskorjyoti Borgohain inagurated the fair.

Indefinite Strike at JNV, Nazira

Joint Action Committee of Service Association of Jawahar Navoday Vidalaya on Friday started their indefinite strike in support of 20-points long-standing demands. Along with the rest of the country all JAC members of JNV, Chakimukh of Sivasagar district started  agitation for fulfilling their long pending demands.

Illegal stone quarries in Nazira

Stone quarries are illegally operating at Bihubor under Nazira sub-division. Bihubor is famous for its stone reserves and most of Upper Assam is dependent on it. The State Forest Department earn crores of rupees from Bihubor stone quarries annually. With the help of a few forest officials two influential businessmen illegally set up 2 stone quarries at Bihubor. The quarries run without legal permits and required settlement permissions at the behest of the forrest officials. More so the businessmen duo extract stones by digging as deep as 60 ft by the River Dikhow.
