ERDF felicitates senior citizens

Every year the Education Research and Development Foundation (ERDF) honors eminent personalities of the state in recognition of their contribution in different fields to mark the advent of New Year. This year ERDF selected some senior citizens of the state to wish good health and long life so that they can continue their service to the society.

The 2013 edition of the felicitation programme was held at the Regional Institute of Science & Technology (RIST) for ten senior citizens. The function began with welcome address of the dignitaries to the Dais by N I Laskar, Director, Corporate Communication ERDF. Dr H K Baruah, Director (Academics), ERDF welcomed the guests. Felicitation of guests began with Nirupama Borgohain, Abdul Mazeed, Prof. Md. Taher, Abdul Malik , H N Das, Abdul Khaleque Mazumder, B K Nath, D N Barua, Hareswar Das and D N Singh.

Dr N K Choudhury, Principal Adviser, ERDF addressed the dignitaries followed by Dr A C Bhagabati, former Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University A.P

Nirupama Borgohain released two books, namely, ‘Janmadin’ authored by Dr Dinesh Baishya and ‘Paloiya-Pathar’ by Devajit Saikia. Later on the dignitaries expressed their views and the functions concluded after vote of thanks by N I Laskar.

The Education Research and Development Foundation is the largest institutional network in the Northeastern region catering education from KG to PG by running two CBSE affiliated schools, two professional colleges viz. Central IT College and Regional College of Higher Education, one engineering college Regional Institute of Science & Technology and one University, the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya.

National poets’ meet held at Bokakhat

Adil, Angelika lift tennis title

Adil Hakim of Australia (in picture) won the boys singles title in the Indian Oil ITF World Junior Ranking Tennis championship at the Chachal Tennis complex on Friday. In the final Hakim beat Lewicki Filip of Poland in straight set 6-4,6-1.In the girls section the final was also an one sided affair and Angelika Aliev of Israel won the title clash defeating Sevil Alieva of Azarbaijan in straight set 6-4,6-2.Meanwhile Poland pair Stefaniak Piotr and Majchrowicz Adam emerged champion in the boys doubles event while Starkova Valentina (Kaz) and Alieva Sevil (Aza) won the girls title.

Kaushik's dream run end in semis

A dream run in the Indian Oil ITF World Junior Ranking Tennis Championship finally came to an end for Kaushik Das as he today lost the boys singles semi final against Lewicki Filip of Poland at the Chachal tennis court on Thursday. The Assam lad was in his best form in the tournament and even in the semi final too he played superbly but Filip finally managed to over come the challenge of Das. Citizens demand round-table meet

A citizens' meet organised by the Journalists' Forum, Assam (JFA) on Thursday demanded a round-table conference among various ethnic groups in Assam to discuss their demands, which, in some cases, appear to be conflicting.The meeting held at the Guwahati Press Club, was organised in connection with the unfortunate incident of November 24 in the Beltola-Dispur area of the city and its aftermath.The citizens, who included noted litterateur Nirupama Borgohain and veteran journalist Dhirendra Nath Chakravarty, said in a resolution that the demands, if considered separately, might lead to further misunderstanding in an already polarised society. Displaying a spectacular performance yet again, Assam lad Kaushik Das reached the semi-finals in the boys’ section of the Indian Oil ITF World Junior Ranking Tennis Championship held at Chachal Tennis Complex on Wednesday. Citizens' meet on Thursday

The Journalists' Forum, Assam has strongly condemned the unfortunate and shameful incident that took place in Guwahati on November 24, Saturday and called it brutal and inhuman. Thumps down for ASTC courier

The Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) courier service has been performing quite inconsistently, according to the consumers utilizing its service. Violin Recital at Celebrate Bandra Festival, Mumbai

Violinist Sunita Bhuyan performed at the Hindustani music evening of Celebrate Bandra on 24th of November at the Carter Road Promenade, Mumbai. Jairam hints at Stillwell reopening
