Every year the Education Research and Development Foundation (ERDF) honors eminent personalities of the state in recognition of their contribution in different fields to mark the advent of New Year. This year ERDF selected some senior citizens of the state to wish good health and long life so that they can continue their service to the society.
The 2013 edition of the felicitation programme was held at the Regional Institute of Science & Technology (RIST) for ten senior citizens. The function began with welcome address of the dignitaries to the Dais by N I Laskar, Director, Corporate Communication ERDF. Dr H K Baruah, Director (Academics), ERDF welcomed the guests. Felicitation of guests began with Nirupama Borgohain, Abdul Mazeed, Prof. Md. Taher, Abdul Malik , H N Das, Abdul Khaleque Mazumder, B K Nath, D N Barua, Hareswar Das and D N Singh.

Nirupama Borgohain released two books, namely, ‘Janmadin’ authored by Dr Dinesh Baishya and ‘Paloiya-Pathar’ by Devajit Saikia. Later on the dignitaries expressed their views and the functions concluded after vote of thanks by N I Laskar.
The Education Research and Development Foundation is the largest institutional network in the Northeastern region catering education from KG to PG by running two CBSE affiliated schools, two professional colleges viz. Central IT College and Regional College of Higher Education, one engineering college Regional Institute of Science & Technology and one University, the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday has set up a one man panel to probe the Dhubri boat mishap on Monday.
Addressing a press conference in Dispur on Tuesday, Gogoi said that additional chief secretary Jitesh Khosla will probe the incident. He said that the one man commission would submit the report by the next thirty days.

The Assam government has announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs1.5 lakh each to the next of kin of those who died in the boat tragedy in Dhubri district on Monday. The announcement came from Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who has rushed ministers, medical teams to the spot. Assam Transport Minister Chandan Brahma rushed to the Fakirganj area on Tuesday and took stock of the situation.
Apart from this, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for next of kin of those killed in the boat mishap. Dr Singh, who is in constant touch with Assam Chief Minister, has assured Dispur of all help in the search operation.

ULFA’s anti-talk faction on Sunday comes down heavily on Arabinda Rajkhowa alleging that the chairman was trying to compromise the outfit’s original demand. The outfit asked Rajkhowa to leave the government’s favour. In a statement sent to media on Sunday, the outfit’s publicity leader Aronodoy Dohotia said that sovereignty and independence were not negotiable and that nobody has given Rajkhowa or any one to compromise it. Assam scripts yet another history on Sunday. Altogether 100 people on Sunday planted 40,885 saplings within an hour near the Chirang Reserve Forest to enter the Guinness World Records. Army’s Dogra Regiment and 135 Ecological Battalion jawans planted the saplings on the banks of the Saralbhanga river on Sunday from 11 in the morning to 12 noon. The entire rare event was video-graphed in full view of three independent observers. The footage would now be sent to Guinness World Records.
