Demand for women-only city bus service
Amid decry of the recent cases of violence against women and frequent harassment in the public transport, some Guwahati based organisations raise demand for women-only city bus service in Guwahati. A woman government official, speaking to this reporter, said she has to come across misdemenour from male passenger in the citi-bus often.'This is humaliting for any woman', she said. Amrita Pathak Hazarika, North East Network, a city based non-governmental organisation, upholding the demand said the government should consider the issue seriously. She has also raised demand for street-lights in every nook-corner of the city arguing that lack of illumination ignites criminal elements.

The city based voluntary organization Save Guwahati Bulid Guwahati (SGBG) condoled on the death of former congress MP Santosh Mohan Deb. In a horrifying development, a poor flood-affected and differently able farmer of Bordowatop locality in Marigaon district committed suicide on Sunday. The farmer, identified as Kamal Nath, reportedly hanged himself in a temporary camp set-up for flood-affected people of the locality.
