JBF (India), Guwahati Chapter inaugurated an Animal Relief Center for street and stray animals at Chandan Nagar, Survey, Beltola. The aim of the relief center is to provide medical help to the stray and street animals. However it also has a treatment cell where privately owned animals will also be treated and the donations received from owners will be used to run the Animal Relief Center.
JBF (India) is an organization promoted by JBF(Scotland), a professionally managed organization working in the field of Animal Welfare since the year 2003. JBF (India) is a member of the Society of World Society for Protection of Animals (WSPA). JBF (India) is also a recognized by the Animal Welfare Board of India, Ministry of Environment and Forest Government of India.
The treatment cell equipped with all modern facilities is a spacious center right in the heart of the city easily accessible for all. It is also equipped with a recovery room where animals can recuperate after treatment. The center will have two vets and three assistants on weekdays and one senior Consultant with prior appointments on Sundays and holidays. Apart from an OPD and an operation theatre it will have a rehabilitation Room for the most needy patients from the street.
Mentionably, JBF(India) is already running a JBF Mobile Animal Clinic for street and stray animals which was launched at the stakeholders meeting on 10th June 2007. The mobile Animal Clinic runs through major lanes of Guwahati and also attends cases on call. The mobile clinic provides “on the spot” free minor veterinary care to the injuries, diseases and emergencies on the street of Guwahati. And now with the setting up of the Animal Relief Center further advanced treatment can be provided to the suffering animals.
JBF’s motto of helping animals to have a more bearable life can be fulfilled only if there is people’s participation in this regard. We the people should rise above our selfish issues and spare a thought for our four legged counterparts. Dr Sashanka, Managing Trustee, JBF stated, “ We are the most dangerous species of lives but we are also the only ones who when we choose can do welfare and save many from destruction. Dr Smriti, Secretary of JBF Welfare Organisation further added that , “School children are the best primary source of creating and spreading Animal Welfare”. She also said that welfare to animals means welfare to mankind which is welfare to the environment and ultimately leads to global welfare.
