The Hmar Welfare Society, Guwahati, HSA Joint Headquarters, Guwahati and HSA Joint Headquarters N C Hills & Karbi Anglong organised seminar on Hmar literature renaissance and its prospect at Haflong Govt College on Thursday. This was sponsored by UGC, News Guwahati. The inaugural session was started with opening prayer by Rev (Dr) L S Khawbung followed by keynote address by David Keivom, President HAS Jt. Hqts, Guwahati. In session - I, the historical background of Hmar literature and education was discussed by Dr VLT Bapui, President, Hmar Literature Society, Assam. In session II, Significances of oral literature in the preservation of Hmar Customary Law and Folk songs was discussed by Mr Louis Keivom, Programme producer, Doordarshan Kendra, Shillong and Dr Paul Chonzik, Associate professor, department of history, AU, Diphu.
In Session III, Gramatical structure of Hmar Literature was discussed by Dr VLT Bapui, President, Hmar Literature Society, Assam. In session IV, impact of modern education in the development of Hmar literature was discussed by Dr Lalzawmlien Hmar, Asstt. Professor, Janata College Kabuganj, Cachar. Talking to media persons, Dr Lalzawmlien Hmar, Asstt. Professor of Janata College Kabuganj, Cachar disclosed that 400 students took part in the seminar and the aim of the seminar was to improve Hmar Literature which was earlier in oral form and now they are having in written form. The Hmar language is now introduced in degree level as Major Indian Language.
