NRL extends helping hand to dsabled
Along with the rest of the world, Numaligarh Refinery Ltd. (NRL) today organized “”Helping Hand”, an event to commemorate world disabled day at Golaghat district library auditorium. Dipak Chakravarty, MD of NRL, on his inaugural speech said, that the mentally and physically disabled people are an integral part of our society and we should never neglect and treat them as inferior. It is the moral responsibility of the society to create such an ambient that where the disabled persons can also partake at social, political and cultural field. Because we never know when some great scientist like Stephen Hawkings or a sprinter like Oscar Pistorius or a dancer like Sudha Chandran may emerge from among them. While Speaking to Assamtimes, Pranab Kr. Sarma, CSR Manger of NRL, said that this for the first time they have organized such an event and today they had distributed hearing aid, wheel chair, walking sticks etc to a total of seventy beneficiaries of Golaghat district and hopeful of extending the program to cover the entire state in the near future. Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat district, Sanjib Gohain Barua; Joint Director of Health of Golaghat, MC Gogoi; Jatin Bora, Vice-president of All Assam Students Union among others were also present on the occasion.

From providing elephant safari to tourists and ensuring the security of Kaziranga National Park the departmental elephants are used in various activities of the park. These departmental elephants were given medical treatment at various times but for the first time the elephants have been medically examined for TB and proper treatment would be provided if any elephant is found affected by it. According to park sources from 29th May a weeklong camp was held at Kaziranga National Park where 52 departmental elephants of Agoratoli, Kohora, Bagori and Burapahar range were checked up for any signs of TB.

While the tragedy of the tanker blast on 31st May at Bongaon under Kamargaon Police Station in Golaghat Dist. is still fresh in the minds of the people, another tragedy took place at the same spot on 6th June. A man named Chinku Sahu (30) was run down by an ambulance bearing no. AS-01/BC-9300, who died on the spot and a 12 year old boy named Sabin Saikia was also severely injured in the accident. Railway Police at Furkating Junction in Golaghat District recovered two 9 mm pistols and a grenade from a Moriani bound train on Friday night. The train which was coming from New Jalpaiguri, enters Furkating Junction at 9.55 pm. When Railway Police entered the compartments for routine check-up, on suspicion they interrogated a passenger named Sakti Danda Singh belonging to Chelenhat in Jorhat District. The latter fled the place leaving behind his bag from where the police recovered the arms. After some time the police managed to arrest the absconding Mr. Singh from under a culvert. But due to constant vigilance on the highway by NRL Police Out Post, the car lifters are now shifted their attention to an alternate route.
