Rhino dehorned at Kaziranga again
Just after 72 hours of two high profile visits to Kaziranga National Park, one by Union Environmental Minister Jayanti Natrajan and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and the other by state Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain, the silence of KNP was broken once again by the booming of gun. All the assurance of providing safety to the wildlife of KNP especially to the rare one horned rhino fell flat as poachers gunned down a rhino and dehorned it. Till the filing of this report the rhino is struggling for its life. The forest gurads has found a 303 rifle on the spot and have launched a massive manhunt to nab the poachers. Expressing serious concern over the poaching of rhinos, Dadul Bora, President, Bokakhat unit of All Assam Students Union (AASU) has raised his accusation towards state forest minister Rockybul Hussain, who only makes hiking but fails to translate his words into action. He further said that a major number of personnel belonging to Forest Battalion stationed at Bagori, were shifted to Silchar for reasons unknown and under mysterious circumstances. Bora also alleged that the forest minister had given preference to candidates from his constituency and other places like Guwahati over local youths of Golaghat and Bokakhat in matter of appointment of Forest guard. The AASU has demanded that if the forest minister have any self respect then he should tender his resignation immediately.
